Internet Test Out Information
Denver Public Schools
Department of Educational Technology
1998-99

Testing out of the Internet is a procedure that was put in place during the 1995-96 school year as a means for accommodating the already proficient Internet users within the DPS. It is expected that individuals capable of testing out of the Internet will minimally possess the skills of district staff who have completed the full fifteen hours of Internet training. Users with only marginal experience will be far better served by taking a full Internet training class.

Below are some of the expectations that one should be able to meet in order to successfully “test out” of Internet training for both Colorado Education Online (CEO) and Netscape 2.0. Individuals who have not had experience with CEO email should seek out a colleague who has a CEO account and is willing to train a prospective user.

CEO
•Replying to sent messages
•Composing new messages and addressing them appropriately to both CEO and non-CEO email addresses
•Sending attachments
•Printing messages to specific DPS network printers
•Saving messages beyond default settings
•Creating address books
•Creating resumes

Netscape 2.0 or 3.0
•Navigating successfully through the World Wide Web using the Netscape browser
•Changing and setting preferences
•Saving, organizing, importing, and exporting bookmarks
•Using search engines effectively

Testing Procedures:
•The testing will be exclusively “hands on” using both CEO and Netscape
•If one fails either portion of the test (CEO or Netscape) he/she will be expected to take the full fifteen hours of Internet training. Retakes will not be offered.
•As of 8/97, individuals who wish to access the Internet from a DPS classroom or office must have computers configured with Ethernet before DoTS will address their computers for Internet access.
•$10 (per year) is now being charged for all new CEO accounts.

The testing out dates for 1998-99 are as follows:
•September 24
•December 10
•January 28
•March 25

Individuals interested in participating in the testing out process must preregister prior to the day of the sessions. Walk-ins will not be honored. Contact Gloria Lopez (964-3116) for registration details.
All test outs will be held at the Career Education Center (26th and Eliot).

A non-refundable $10 test out fee will charged for all participants.
