GOALS -- 1997-1998

Goal Statement: Develop Competent High School Graduates

  1. Develop Literate Students
    • Achievement of proficiency levels in reading, writing, communication, mathematics, and science that meet district content standards
    • Allocation of resources directed toward instructional and professionaldevelopment in the areas of language arts, mathematics, and science
    • Emphasis on literacy skill development throughout the curriculum
    • Emphasis on English language development for speakers of other languages

     

  2. Prepare Students for the School-to-Career/College Transition
    • Development of individualized career/academic plans
    • Participation in business, community, and college experiences
    • Development of course work to integrate academic and career concepts and demonstrate relationships between academics and professional life
    • Emphasis on increasing graduation rate and reducing dropouts

     

  3. Increase School Readiness
    • Emphasis on preschool parent educational training and support
    • Expansion of student enrollment and curriculum enrichment
    • Dissemination of district ECE Continuum to both public and private daycare providers to foster a common citywide ECE focus

     

  4. Increase Community Participation
    • Enhancement of site-based decision-making opportunities
    • Expansion of the role of schools in the life of the community
    • Emphasis on strengthening community education efforts
    • Development of schools as neighborhood centers
    • Coordination of Denver Community School with other agencies and district programs
